Morgan McKinley in the Greater Paris region is seeking a control systems engineer to own the PAT control layer and design the control laws that keep a laser beam aligned at long range. You will implement real-time flight code and validate performance on the bench.

Responsibilities include modeling, Monte Carlo simulations, and testing with embedded C on bare-metal/RTOS platforms, collaborating with a senior engineering team across space and defence applications.

Qualifications

• Degree in Control, Mechatronics, Robotics, or related field.
• Hands-on experience closing and measuring a real control loop on hardware.
• Proficiency with Matlab/Simulink and embedded C; professional English.

About Us We build communication terminals and optical payloads for space and defence. Our small, senior engineering team owns disciplines across the portfolio, where every deliverable has a single named owner.

The Role You will own the control layer for Pointing, Acquisition, and Tracking (PAT) loops that hold a laser beam on target at long range. You will design the control laws, write real-time flight code, and validate system performance directly on the bench.

Key Responsibilities

• Control Laws & Servos: Fine/coarse pointing loops, loop shaping, state-space design, and non-linear actuator physics (friction, stick-slip).
• Modeling & Kinematics: Plant models, Monte Carlo simulations, line-of-sight decomposition, and inverse kinematics.
• Strategy & Budgets: Acquisition search patterns, detection thresholds, and pointing error budget allocation.
• Implementation & Bench: Bare-metal/RTOS control code in embedded C, breadboard testing, and reconciling measured dynamics against predictions.

Qualifications

• Education: Degree in Control, Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent grounding.
• Hardware Experience: Must have closed and measured a real control loop on physical hardware (e.g., optical bench, drone, precision stage). No simulation-only profiles.
• Tools & Languages: Matlab/Simulink, embedded C, and professional English (French is a plus).
