Position Overview

Seeking a Civil Engineer with civil design experience for a direct hire opportunity with our client in New York, NY. This position offers full benefits including PTO, Medical, Dental, Vision, 401k, ESOP, Commuter Benefit Program, and Tuition Reimbursement Program. Salary is between $105,000 - $115,000 per year (based on experience). The selected candidate will support site and roadway design and compliance review activities under the direction and supervision of a Principal Civil Engineer, playing a key role in design development and technical review of civil engineering projects at the Authority’s facilities. This position involves reviewing submittals from developers and design‑build teams to ensure compliance with contractual requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Perform conceptual and final design for site and roadway projects at Authority facilities.
  • Conduct technical reviews of submitted plans and design packages from developers or design‑builders for conformance with project specifications, design guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluate design documents for compliance with Port Authority Civil Design Guidelines, federal/state/local regulations (e.g., NYSDEC, NJDEP), and applicable codes and standards (e.g., AASHTO).
  • Review and interpret contract documents, including drawings, specifications, and scopes of work.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, consultants, and stakeholders to address design comments and ensure project alignment with Authority objectives.
  • Provide technical guidance and design input for civil infrastructure improvements such as roadway rehabilitation, site development, and drainage systems.
  • Support the Principal Civil Engineer in ensuring adherence to quality, safety, and regulatory standards throughout the design and review process.
  • Utilize standard business and engineering software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook to perform daily tasks.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant civil design experience (project management experience may be considered relevant depending on the nature of work; construction management experience will not be considered relevant).
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) License in New York or New Jersey.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited college or university.
  • Familiarity with various construction delivery methods (e.g., Design‑Bid‑Build, Design‑Build, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret contract documents, including drawings, specifications, and work provisions.
  • Working knowledge of Port Authority Civil Design Guidelines, federal/state/local environmental and regulatory standards, and industry codes (AASHTO, etc.).
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
