Civil Designer

Location: Nashua, NH or Burlington, MA (Greater Boston Area). Company: IMEG, a 100% employee‑owned design consulting firm.

The role is open to qualified candidates who can lead civil design effort as a project manager or lead engineer on low‑to‑moderate complexity projects.

Responsibilities
  • Lead design efforts for civil site design projects for commercial, residential, industrial, and mixed‑use projects.
  • Utilize engineering software (primarily Civil 3D) and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations in accordance with code requirements and IMEG standards.
  • Direct and train Civil Design Technicians on reports, exhibits, plans, specifications, and permit applications.
  • Prepare and oversee permit applications for municipalities, coordinating with clients and the team.
  • Manage projects through bidding and construction administration phases.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical and efficient solutions.
  • Interact with clients to understand needs, gather requirements, and communicate technical information.
  • Plan, budget, and schedule tasks to meet project deadlines and objectives.
  • Document design decisions and monitor project progress relative to percent complete and expenditures.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in civil engineering.
  • Ensure safety and regulatory compliance in all engineering work.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions aligned with project goals.
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Proficient with industry‑standard engineering software, especially Civil 3D.
  • Experience with pipe networking and road corridors.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to apply civil engineering principles.
  • Ability to train, mentor, and lead less experienced staff.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Collaborative, team‑oriented approach.
  • Attention to detail and problem‑solving ability.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% and stay overnight occasionally.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Engineer‑In‑Training (EIT) certification.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the building design consulting industry.
  • Alternative: Associates degree or certificate in Autodesk Civil 3D (or equivalent) plus 7 years of experience in building design consulting or construction industry.
  • Position is not eligible for sponsorship.
