IXO Labs is seeking a biomedical ML/data science researcher to build, train or assess models on multi-omics data and develop reproducible pipelines for variant analysis, gene expression, and pathway modeling.

You will evaluate methods, document assumptions and results, and deliver a technical artifact with supporting evidence. Availability ranges 10-20 hours per week, with indicative 2-3 week assignments; remote by agreement.

Qualifications

• At least one first-author publication in a quantitative field.
• Master's or PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, computing, data science, or related field.
• Demonstrated ML expertise with strong biological-data depth (genomics, transcriptomics, sequence analysis).

Work you will do

• Build, train or assess models using genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic or multi-omics datasets.
• Develop reproducible pipelines for problems such as variant analysis, gene expression or biological-pathway modeling.
• Evaluate supervised or unsupervised methods and document data assumptions, model choices and the scientific interpretation of the results.

Required background and routes

• At least one first-author peer-reviewed journal publication and a relevant master's or doctorate in bioinformatics, computational biology, computing, data science or a related quantitative field.
• Demonstrated ML expertise together with biological-data depth, such as genomics, transcriptomics or sequence analysis; solve technical problems independently.

Preferred background

• Tools/pipelines such as DESeq2, GATK, STAR, Snakemake or Nextflow; teaching/TA work and biological foundation models such as Enformer, DNABERT or scVI.

Deliverables

Submit the completed technical artifact or assessment with its supporting evidence, explicit assumptions, reproducible checks where applicable, and concise reasons for each material judgment. Address review findings within the agreed scope.

Location and schedule

Remote assignments are scheduled by agreement, with no guaranteed weekly volume. Availability planning can include 10-20 hours per week depending on the track. Indicative assignment lengths include 2-3 weeks. IXO confirms the applicable timing before work.

Pay and working terms

$160 $210/hr USD. The agreed hourly rate, scope, schedule and acceptance criteria are confirmed before work starts. Applying does not guarantee an assignment.
