Overview

The Team: We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our EMEA Utilities Ratings group at the Associate Director level. The team focuses on fundamental credit analysis of both regulated and unregulated utilities businesses in EMEA across the gas, electricity, waste, and water sectors.

The Role and Impact

The successful candidate will assume direct analytical responsibility for a portfolio of credits in the region, conduct meetings with management, prepare the analysis, and present a rating recommendation to the committee. They will also contribute to the group’s research and other publishing efforts, including cooperation with other groups within S&P Global Ratings.

Responsibilities and Impact
  • Manage and maintain surveillance on a rating portfolio of credits and support the team in its day-to-day activities, notably data gathering
  • Perform credit analysis demonstrating the ability to understand and identify key factors that affect issue and issuer credit ratings through applying the relevant S&P Global Ratings criteria
  • Lead new transaction and issuer ratings analysis and deliver outcomes in a timely, orderly, and insightful manner
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of industry trends and issues
  • Take responsibility for ratings as a primary analyst. Lead meetings and interact with senior management of issuers to obtain information on which to base credit rating decisions
  • Prepare rating committee documentation, present findings and opinions to a credit rating committee
  • Prepare material for publication on S&P Global Ratings credit portal and other media (rating trends, reports, press releases, and detailed commentaries) to disseminate and explain ratings on a timely basis
  • Support the team in day-to-day activities, notably data gathering
  • Share analytical expertise and ideas to improve group operations
  • Maintain integrity of analytical or compliance-related databases as appropriate
  • All employees are required to work from the office a minimum of 2 days per week
  • Final-stage interview requires at least one in-person interview at the nearest S&P Global Ratings office prior to an offer
What We’re Looking For
  • Basic Required Qualifications
  • Strong analytical skills with a deep understanding of financial statements and accounting concepts; typically 3-5 years of experience
  • Numerate and accurate with figures and detail-oriented, able to meet deadlines
  • Proficient at working with financial models
  • Degree level education in a relevant business-related field
  • Fluency in English (written and verbal) along with fluent French (written and verbal) skills
  • Ability to navigate challenging conversations with clarity and empathy
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Willingness to travel at short notice
  • Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the Utilities or Infrastructure sector is desirable
  • Relevant Master’s degree, CFA, or financial qualification desirable
  • Ability to speak another European language (e.g., Spanish) desirable
