Job summary

The European Investment Bank (EIB) seeks an Associate Sector Specialist – Critical Raw Materials at its Luxembourg headquarters. The role provides exposure to due diligence and project appraisal in mining, metals refining and related process industries, with regular collaboration across DEVs and external stakeholders.

You will contribute to financial and economic analyses, assess environmental and social sustainability, and support strategic lending decisions within the INCO/EIB framework.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level degree in engineering, science, economics or finance or related field.
• At least 3 years of relevant experience in minerals, metals or CRMs.
• Ability to conduct financial and economic analysis with risk assessment.
• Strong communication and collaboration in multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent knowledge of English and/or French with good command of the other.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to technical, economic and financial assessment of mining and metals projects.
• Evaluate strategic viability and environmental and social sustainability.
• Support origination and early screening with Lending Directorate.
• Appraise projects for financing, identifying risks and drafting conclusions.
• Prepare appraisal reports and technical/economic opinions for approvals.
• Monitor project implementation and support follow-up actions.
• Provide Technical Assistance to promoters, including TORs for consultants.
• Prepare final reports for promoters and sponsors.
• Contribute to sector, policy and methodology papers.
