Job summary

Mistral.ai is seeking an AI Scientist to push the boundaries of AI by developing and scaling frontier models. You will work with a global, cross-functional team to design, build, and deploy models solving real-world problems across reasoning, code, and multimodal applications.

You will collaborate with researchers, engineers, and product teams to ship AI systems with tangible impact and contribute to open-source frontier models.

Qualifications

• Track record of contributing to relevant scientific domains, publications, or open-source projects.
• Hands-on experience with AI frameworks like PyTorch or JAX, or distributed systems such as Ray or Kubernetes.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Rust, Go, or Java.
• Ability to design complex software systems and bring them into production.
• Experience training large transformer models in distributed settings.
• Familiarity with the full MLOps stack: fine-tuning, evaluation, deployment.
• Self-starter with autonomy to drive projects and collaborate.
• Strong engineering competence for scalable, reliable systems.

Responsibilities

• Research and develop novel methods to advance LLM capabilities.
• Design and implement tooling and infrastructure for training, evaluating, and analyzing AI models at scale.
• Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and product teams to ship AI systems with tangible impact.
• Explore use cases such as reasoning, code generation, and agent-based systems.
• Work with multimodal data (text, image, speech) to expand model capabilities.
• Optimize distributed systems to improve training efficiency and scalability.
• Contribute to open-source by releasing frontier models for public use.
