Résumé du poste

European Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and Biology seeks a postdoctoral researcher in Marseille to advance neuroimaging and non-invasive deep brain stimulation within the NAUTILUS consortium. The project combines 3T and 7T MRI with TI stimulation to build a virtual brain twin for movement disorders and epilepsy.

The candidate will acquire and analyze fMRI data, map BOLD responses, and contribute to integrating results into the VBT platform, collaborating across disciplines.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Strong background in fMRI, neuroimaging and/or brain stimulation.
  • Experience with fMRI data acquisition and analysis.
  • Proficiency in scientific Python programming.
  • Knowledge of brain connectivity analysis (tractography, functional connectivity).
  • Familiarity with computational modeling and virtual brain platforms.
  • Previous work on TI stimulation and neuromodulation.

Responsabilités

  • Acquire and analyze fMRI experiments with simultaneous TI stimulation at 3T in healthy volunteers.
  • Map BOLD responses and assess functional connectivity changes during basal ganglia, thalamus and pallidum stimulation.
  • Analyze 7T MRI data to compare structural and functional connectivity with 3T results.
  • Collaborate on integrating experimental data into the VBT platform to simulate personalized TI responses.

Description du poste

Postdoc neuroimaging (3T and 7T MRI) in Marseille

Postdoctoral position in neuroimaging and non-invasive deep brain stimulation in Marseille, France.

Job type: Postdoc

Job location: Aix-Marseille University, Marseille, France

Deadline: 2026-6-30

Project Background

The NAUTILUS project, led by Prof. Viktor Jirsa, aims to develop a Virtual Brain Twin (VBT) platform that integrates non-invasive deep brain stimulation with a digital twin of a patient’s brain. Using Temporal Interference (TI) stimulation, the platform enables focal, high-resolution modulation of deep brain structures without surgery. One of the project’s key use cases focuses on developing non-invasive Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) for movement disorders and epilepsy by targeting subcortical networks with high spatial precision using simultaneous fMRI and TI stimulation.

Key Responsibilities

In this project, the candidate will:

  • Acquire and analyze fMRI experiments with simultaneous multiple TI (mTI) stimulation at 3T in healthy volunteers
    • Map BOLD responses
    • Assess functional connectivity changes during stimulation of the basal ganglia, thalamus, and pallidum
  • Analyze 7T MRI data to:
    • Compare high-resolution structural connectivity
    • Compare functional connectivity with stimulation-evoked connectivity obtained at 3T
  • Collaborate on integrating experimental data into the VBT platform to simulate personalized mTI responses
Qualifications and Skills Required
  • PhD in Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
  • Strong background in:
    • fMRI
    • Neuroimaging and/or brain stimulation
  • Experience with fMRI data acquisition and analysis
  • Proficiency in scientific Python programming
  • Knowledge of brain connectivity analysis (e.g., tractography, functional connectivity)
  • Familiarity with:
    • Computational modeling
    • Virtual brain platforms
  • Previous work on:
    • Temporal Interference (TI) stimulation
    • Neuromodulation

The successful candidate will join a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative team within the NAUTILUS consortium, including:

  • Leading center for biomedical MRI
  • Equipped with 3T and 7T MRI scanners
  • Primary location of the postdoctoral researcher
  • Pioneer in computational neuroscience and brain modeling
  • Central contributor to The Virtual Brain (TVB) and emerging VBT initiatives

This collaboration provides a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of:

  • Computational modeling
  • Clinical applications
