The position is placed within the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences in the Electrical Engineering (EE) Unit in the field of the Tampere University Research Centre of Electrical Energy Engineering (EEERC). The EE Unit is a hub of expertise that includes 12 full professors, 9 tenure track professors, and roughly 220 staff members. We confer approximately 100 master’s and 15 doctoral degrees annually, collaborate closely with several industrial partners, and maintain an active presence in the international scientific community.
Our research at the EEERC is organized in research groups led by four professors, four tenure track professors, and one adjunct professor. All groups participate in multidisciplinary and international scientific collaboration through research projects, doctoral training networks and research visits, and maintain strong partnerships with industry. Our teaching and research are based on a profound understanding of electrical and electromagnetic phenomena, the related modelling methods, and relevant practical applications. We are the largest university-level teaching organization in our field in Finland, offering master-level teaching in both Finnish and English across national and international degree programs.
We provide excellent research and teaching infrastructure, including state-of-the-art laboratories, computing resources and advanced simulation tools. Our facilities include microgrid laboratories, a high voltage laboratory, power electronics laboratories, electromechanics laboratories, and a cryogenic laboratory. The main test voltage sources of the high voltage laboratory reach 1000 kV (impulses), 300 kV (AC) and 150 kV (DC), and it is equipped with a wide range of equipment for e.g. condition monitoring, characterization, measurements, and testing. The specialty area of the laboratory is high voltage insulation material and system characterization with a comprehensive set of state-of-the-art characterization facilities.
A successful candidate has a track record of internationally competitive research in high voltage engineering, especially in the area of high voltage insulation system development. In addition, experience in more than one of the following topics is required:
You will pursue and supervise world-class scientific research in your topic area, collaborate actively with local, national and global research partners and industry, and secure both national and international research funding to run your own research group. You will also actively participate in teaching and supervising students at all levels. In addition, one of your tasks will be to lead the high voltage laboratory of Tampere University, which, besides scientific research activities, also offers various testing and research services for industry. Experience in these areas is considered an advantage.
You must have a doctoral degree in high voltage engineering or a related field of electrical engineering and research experience in academia relevant to the job description. Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining international and national research collaborations and networks is highly valued. Fluency in English is required, and Finnish language skills are considered an advantage. Further requirements for each tenure track level are as follows:
