Job summary

AlphaSense is seeking a senior Staff Engineer to own the identity platform stack—authentication, authorization, and user management—for our global customer base. You’ll design scalable, secure services, partner with security teams, and work across a cross‑timezone team from Canada.

You’ll influence roadmaps, drive architecture, and ship self‑service APIs while maintaining SOC2 and GDPR alignment. This role is fully remote in Canada, with collaboration with our Helsinki team.

Qualifications

• Backend stack includes Java 2X, Spring Boot 3, WebFlux, Maven.
• Data & APIs using SQL, GraphQL, gRPC, REST.
• Cloud infra on AWS/GCP, Kubernetes, Helm.
• Identity & security focus: RBAC/ABAC/ReBAC, OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT; SAML 2.0.
• Strong emphasis on secure‑by‑design architecture and security partnerships.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve the authorization platform for teams across the company.
• Develop and enhance the authentication platform and integrations (Auth0).
• Create and maintain the user management platform for large customer bases.
• Partner with security teams to ensure SOC2 and GDPR compliance by design.
• Build scalable systems to support growing users and customers.
• Define long‑term roadmaps across authentication, authorization, and user management.
• Develop self‑service APIs (GraphQL, gRPC, REST) for product teams.
• Drive projects autonomously from Canada with a Helsinki-based team.
• Champion testing, observability, and reliability across the platform.
