Job summary

IQM Quantum Computers in Espoo, Finland, seeks a Senior Quantum Engineer (Photonics) to advance optical interconnects for superconducting qubits. You will design and run experiments in a dilution refrigerator, characterize cryogenic components, and help shape the control stack with input from partners and leadership.

You will work closely with team leads on technical decisions, grant activities, and research collaborations to scale quantum hardware using photonics.

Qualifications

• PhD in a relevant field required.
• At least five years of relevant academic or industrial experience in electronics, photonics or quantum computing.
• Experience running quantum-related experiments in a dilution refrigerator.
• Independent setup, troubleshooting, running and documenting experiments in cryogenic environments.
• Experience with RF and microwave measurement equipment such as network analyzers and pulse generators.
• Python skills for measurement automation and data analysis.
• Good written and spoken English; ability to coordinate across stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Build and develop an experimental platform for superconducting quantum computing with optical links.
• Design and run experiments in a dilution refrigerator, including optical signal paths and sample mounting.
• Characterize optical and cryogenic electronic components (cryogenic photodiodes, lasers, modulators).
• Develop experiments to demonstrate single and two-qubit gates and readout using optical interconnects.
• Simulate and analyze gate fidelities, noise, drift and dissipation to identify improvements.
• Evaluate technology options for the quantum computer control stack and signal path.
• Document results and communicate findings to colleagues and partners.
• Contribute to grant projects with reporting and coordination.
