Job summary

IQM Quantum Computers in Espoo is seeking a Quantum Hardware Engineer to plan, design, and run cryogenic experiments in close collaboration with physicists and engineers. You will develop reliable measurement services for components used in IQM’s quantum computers, balancing practical lab work with the creation of new capabilities.

You will install devices in cryostats, automate measurements, and troubleshoot results, gaining responsibility for your own experiments and designs while contributing

Qualifications

• MSc or PhD in physics or related field.
• Experience planning and setting up experiments in a cryostat.
• Experience with cryogenic systems reaching 4 K or below.
• Understanding of low-temperature instrumentation, including vacuum systems.
• Experience with precision DC or microwave measurements and troubleshooting.
• Understanding of basic mechanical design and translating experimental requirements into a practical assembly.
• Ability to solve problems independently and document work clearly.

Responsibilities

• Plan, design, and assemble cryogenic experiments.
• Install devices in cryostats, perform cooldowns, and run electrical measurements.
• Set up measurement instruments and electronics racks, and develop scripts for automated data acquisition and analysis.
• Diagnose experimental problems, investigate results, and document common failure cases.
• Develop standard measurement procedures to support fabrication and packaging teams.
• Contribute mechanical and electrical designs, coordinating manufacturing, assembly and testing.
• Maintain laboratory organization with clear documentation and well-maintained tools and supplies.
