Job summary

Cyient in Finland (Vaasa) seeks a Power Systems Engineer to lead dynamic modeling of grid codes and power system studies.

You will use PSSE, PSCAD, DIgSILENT, and MATLAB/Python for automation, collaborate with global teams, and deliver compliant study reports while mentoring junior engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with Power Systems focus.
• Fluent in English; Finnish or Swedish is a plus.
• 5+ years of experience in power system studies and modeling.
• Strong knowledge of grid codes and transmission/distribution planning.
• Experience with dynamic simulation tools and scripting for automation.

Responsibilities

• Lead dynamic/transient studies using PSCAD, DIgSILENT, and PSS/E for grid-connection projects.
• Own end-to-end grid code compliance studies, including model build and validation.
• Develop and maintain dynamic models (generators, converters, BESS, HVDC/FACTS).
• Support black-start, islanding, and power quality studies for clients.
• Act as technical point of contact for stakeholders on dynamic scope and findings.
• Review models/reports from distributed teams and enforce quality standards.
• Contribute to internal modeling libraries and templates for consistency.
• Support proposals with technical input for new RFQs.
• Mentor junior engineers on tools, codes, and best practices.

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Engineer for the Electrical Center of Excellence (CoE) discipline to join our Plant Engineering unit. This pivotal role involves overseeing technical project management and engineering activities within the Electrical disciplines power system area . As a power system Engineer, you will collaborate with colleagues and customers globally, contributing to exciting project deliveries across various industries

Key Responsibilities

• Lead dynamic/transient simulation studies using PSCAD, DIgSILENT PowerFactory and PSS/E for grid-connection and compliance projects.
• Own end-to-end delivery of Grid code compliance studies including model build, validation.
• Develop and maintain user-defined dynamic models (generators, converters, BESS, HVDC/FACTS) to client and grid-operator specification.
• Support black-start, islanding, and power quality/harmonics studies for power plant and industrial clients .
• Act as technical point of contact for client stakeholders on dynamic simulation scope, findings, and compliance submissions.
• Review and validate models and reports produced by India-based PSS engineers; enforce technical quality standards across the distributed team.
• Contribute to internal model library and template development to improve modelling consistency and delivery speed.
• Support proposal and bid technical input for dynamic simulation scope on new client RFQs.
• Mentor and upskill junior engineers on dynamic simulation tools, grid codes, and modelling best practice.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s/Master’s in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems specialization preferred).
• Fluent in spoken and written English , Finnish or Swedish is an added advantage.

• Experience: 5+ years in power system studies and modeling.
• Technical Expertise:
  • Proficiency in PSSE,PSCAD.DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP
  • Strong programming skills in MATLAB and/or Python for automation and custom analysis is added advantage
