Job summary

ICEYE is seeking a Senior Geospatial Software Engineer in Espoo, Finland. You will build and run the geospatial data platform feeding analytics products, ingesting diverse data and serving via APIs for internal and external use.

You’ll own production pipelines, APIs, and geospatial processing at scale, collaborating with the Solutions Data Platform Team to ensure quality, reliability, and governance.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Python in production with spatial processing expertise.
• Strong PostgreSQL/PostGIS skills for large datasets.
• Experience with production pipelines using Dagster, Airflow or Prefect.
• HTTP services in Python with async frameworks and ORM.
• Production-grade, testable code and CI/CD practices.
• Containers, Kubernetes, and cloud storage/messaging experience.
• AI-assisted tooling to speed up engineering tasks.
• Master's degree or equivalent depth from experience.

Your day-to-day responsibilities

• Pipeline Development: Build and maintain production pipelines that collect data from external providers, process it, and load it into our spatial databases, using established ingest patterns and adding new sources.
• Pipeline Operations: Own pipelines in production, respond to failures, and adapt ingestion when upstream providers change their schemas, formats, or access rules.
• Data Delivery: Develop and operate the REST and STAC APIs that serve this data to internal and external consumers, with stable contracts and predictable performance.
• Geospatial Processing: Process large raster and vector datasets at scale, covering reprojection, mosaicking, tiling, format conversion, and quality validation.
• Engineering Quality: Improve automated testing, CI/CD, and data quality monitoring so that releases stay safe and repeatable.
• Stakeholder Partnership: Work directly with stakeholders to agree on requirements, explain data coverage, quality, and limitations, and write the specifications and decision records that support them.

What we're looking for

Must haves:

• 5+ years of Python in production, with deep knowledge of spatial indexing, coordinate reference systems, vertical datums, and large-scale raster/vector processing trade-offs.
• Strong PostgreSQL/PostGIS skills: schema design, partitioning, query tuning, and safe migrations on large live datasets.
• Experience running production pipelines on an orchestration framework (Dagster, Airflow, or Prefect), designed to fail loudly and recover cleanly.
• Experience building and operating HTTP services in Python with a modern async framework and ORM, with stable, versioned contracts.
• Confidence extending complex Python codebases with testable, production-grade code.
• Comfort with containers, CI/CD, cloud storage/messaging, and Kubernetes.
• Expert, pragmatic use of AI-assisted tools (Cursor, Claude, Copilot) to speed up routine engineering.
• Master's degree in Computer Science, Geoinformatics, Geodesy, Remote Sensing, or a related field, or equivalent depth from real-world experience.

Nice to haves:

• Experience with satellite imagery.
• Familiarity with STAC, OGC API standards, or Cloud-Optimized GeoTIFF.
• Experience integrating with public-sector or government data APIs.
• Data quality and observability tooling, for example dbt or OpenTelemetry.
• Infrastructure-as-code and GitOps experience.
