Job summary

General Motors seeks a Staff Embedded Software Developer to design and optimize distributed control/data planes for vehicle ECUs. You will work on cloud-enabled configuration, data egress, and fleet management within a hybrid office setup.

The role requires 8+ years in C/C++, Linux/Android/QNX experience, and strong cross-team collaboration to advance large-scale, data-intensive pipelines and open-source contributions. Remote diagnostics and OTA concepts are a focus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Proficiency in C/C++ with 8+ years hands-on development experience.
• Experience Linux/Android/QNX and large-scale distributed systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain the on-vehicle control plane; retrieve config from the cloud.
• Build the on-vehicle data plane to collect and forward data to cloud storage.
• Optimize for intermittent connectivity and low CPU/memory footprint on ECU.
• Integrate with Azure, AWS S3, and Firestore for config delivery and reporting.
• Collaborate with DevOps and Cloud teams to deploy software safely.
• Instrument observability to monitor fleet and diagnose production issues.
• Contribute to open-source and documentation; mentor peers.
• Guide thousands of vehicles from a single control plane with versioning and remote diagnostics.
• Support team growth and promote software best practices.
