Job summary

Scandit is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to build and scale ShelfView, a ML-powered retail platform for real-time shelf visibility and store monitoring. You will own distributed backend systems, work with Django/Python, PostgreSQL, and cloud services to deliver reliable, scalable services.

You will collaborate with AI/ML teams, improve infrastructure, and mentor peers while shaping the technical direction as the team grows—with a hybrid/remote/allocation setup in Finland.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend engineering shipping cloud-based software.
• Experience evaluating workflow orchestration or distributed-pipeline tools for production.
• Hands-on with identity systems including SSO, OAuth/OIDC, RBAC and multi-tenant architectures.
• Observability tooling: distributed tracing, metrics, structured logging; debug production issues.
• Fluent in multiple languages, with Python as strongest.
• Experience with relational and document databases, service-oriented architectures, data pipelines, Docker and Kubernetes.
• Familiar with automated testing, CI/CD, and AI coding tools.
• Broad infra, backend, data, and frontend exposure with depth in at least one area.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) for provisioning and scaling.
• Experience operating production systems at scale and in multi-tenant or real-time ML pipelines.
• Willing to contribute cross-functionally beyond the team and role.
• Eligibility to work in the hiring location.
• Nice-to-have: ML model serving at scale including GPU planning and cost optimization.

Responsibilities

• Load and stress test large deployments and scale infrastructure.
• Improve GPU capacity strategies and observability across systems.
• Collaborate with AI/ML teams to bring models into production.
• Strengthen multi-tenant architecture and API design.
• Troubleshoot production issues and mentor colleagues; help set technical direction.
