Job summary

Netigate AB in Helsinki is seeking an experienced AI-focused backend engineer to join our product-driven team. You will build AI-driven services in Python, leverage GenAI tools, and design scalable retrieval systems powering LLM-based features.

Collaborate with a React/Node.js team to integrate AI capabilities into our product, lead new AI initiatives from prototype to production, and deploy on Azure using IaC practices.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional Python experience.
• Experience with GenAI tools such as Claude, Cursor, and Copilot.
• Strong background in vector databases, embeddings, and hybrid search.
• Experience indexing and retrieving data from large data lakes for LLMs.
• Proficiency with APIs, microservices, and scalable backend architecture.
• Hands-on with Azure or similar cloud platforms.
• Fluent English with excellent communication.

Responsibilities

• Build smart, scalable, and production-ready AI-driven services using Python.
• Apply the latest AI tools like Claude, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot in your daily workflow.
• Design andoptimize hybrid retrieval systems(e.g. vector + BM25) to power LLM-based agents and data lake exploration.
• Work closely with our main development team (React, Node.js) to bring AI capabilities into our product experience.
• Take the lead on new AI initiatives -prototype, test, build, and continuously improve.
• Leverage Azure cloud infrastructure (including pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, etc.) to deploy and manage your work.
• Stay on top of the evolving LLM/AI landscape and help us stay ahead of the curve.
• Build modern agents using LangGraph, MCP, gRPC with a mixture of proprietary and open models.
• Work on scalable data services using Kafka, RabbitMQ and various ELT platforms.
• Build and deploy with Github Action, Azure stack, ArgoCD, Argo Workflows - of course supported by SRE

Your Key Responsibilities

Your Profile

• 5+ years of experience with Python -you're not just fluent, you’re persuasive.

• Solid experience working with GenAI tools like Claude, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, etc.

• Strong background in modern data retrieval -you’ve built or worked withvector databases,embedding stores, andhybrid search engines(e.g., vector + BM25).

• You understand how to index, query, and surface relevant data from large-scale data lakes -optimizing retrieval for LLMs and intelligent agents.

• Solid grasp of APIs, microservices, and scalable backend architecture.

• Hands-on experience with Azure or similar cloud platforms.

• You’re fluent in English and an excellent communicator -comfortable explaining complex ideas clearly.

• You’re collaborative, humble, and care about team success as much as your own.

• Bonus for knowledge and experience of Word2Vec, CBOW, LSTM, ML, RNNs, NTLK and other NLP technologies

• Bonus for knowledge of Apache Flink, Spark, Superset and ELT/ETL stack such as Airflow, Meltano and good Postgres knowledge
