Job summary

Basemark in Helsinki is seeking a hands‑on Principal Applied AI Engineer to lead our AI team in a hybrid Helsinki office. You will build production AI agent systems that operate across real backlogs and codebases, designing and guiding scalable solutions.

Expect to drive multi‑agent architectures, integrate with full SDLC, and create observability dashboards while mentoring engineers and collaborating with Product, DevOps and Engineering teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years shipping production software
• Fluent in Python and at least one statically typed language (C++, Rust, TypeScript)
• Deep working knowledge of Git workflows, GitHub/Azure DevOps Pipelines, code review practices, and testing pyramid
• Ability to read and modify unfamiliar codebases, infra-as-code & build systems
• Hands-on experience with production agent frameworks (Claude Agent SDK, LangGraph, OpenAI Agents SDK, AutoGen, CrewAI)
• Strong understanding of context engineering and prompt engineering techniques
• Experience building evals and CI-based regression suites
• Observability and tracing for LLM systems, regression management
• Design and shipping of long-running asynchronous systems with human-in-the-loop approvals

Responsibilities

• Design multi-agent architectures that decompose tasks, gather context, plan, execute, and self-verify
• Integrate agents with full SDLC: ticketing, version control, CI/CD, code review tooling
• Build eval harnesses, traces and dashboards to optimize agent performance
• Define human-in-the-loop boundaries: what agents do, what to elevate, what to hand back
• Optimize for cost, latency and reliability at production scale
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering & DevOps to ship safely
