Job summary

The Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research (INAR) at the University of Helsinki invites applications for a Professor or Assistant/Associate Professor in Meteorology. The appointee will lead independent research, collaborate with the Finnish Meteorological Institute, supervise students and post-doctoral researchers, and contribute to teaching in synoptic meteorology and numerical weather prediction.

Teaching will support the Master’s Programme in Meteorology, ATM-MP, and SciDoc.

Qualifications

• PhD in meteorology or related field.
• Strong record in synoptic-scale dynamics and numerical weather prediction.
• Proven ability to lead independent research and secure research funding.
• Experience teaching at master’s and doctoral levels.

Responsibilities

• Conduct an outstanding independent research program and supervise students and post-doctoral researchers.
• Teach courses on synoptic meteorology and numerical weather prediction within the ATM-MP and SciDoc programmes.
• Promote interaction between academia and society and collaborate with national institutes (e.g., FMI).
