Job summary

University of Oulu invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in the General Education Research unit within the Faculty of Education and Psychology. The role focuses on the DATAVOID project, examining data centres and industrial transformation in Arctic regions, with primary emphasis on Canada and extended fieldwork in Canada.

The position is based in Oulu, Finland, with periods of residence there and extended fieldwork in Canada.

Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in environmental social sciences, anthropology, human geography, STS, sociology or related field.
• Ability to conduct independent qualitative research.
• Experience with interviews, ethnography, archival research or qualitative document analysis.

Responsibilities

• Design and conduct qualitative research on data centre development in northern Canada; focus on Canada with potential Alberta and Saskatchewan.
• Conduct fieldwork using qualitative methods (interviews, ethnography, archival research, media and policy analysis).
• Develop own research within DATAVOID and publish high-quality peer-reviewed papers independently and with others.
• Contribute to comparative analysis across project case studies and participate in meetings and workshops.
• Collaborate with DATAVOID partners in Canada and University of Oulu researchers; contribute to outreach and stakeholder engagement.
