Job summary

The Department of Physics at the University of Jyväskylä invites applications for a Doctoral Researcher in high-precision mass spectrometry. The position, starting January 2027 or soon after, is fixed-term for 3.5 years and leads toward the doctoral thesis completion.

You will work with the JYFLTRAP Penning-trap mass spectrometer within IGISOL, in an international setting. Applicants should hold or be nearing a Master’s degree in physics or a related field.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in physics or a related field.
• Experience in one or more of these areas is advantageous: experimental atomic, nuclear or particle physics; ion trapping; mass spectrometry; vacuum technology; electronics, data acquisition and/or programming.
• Good command of English.

Responsibilities

• High-precision atomic mass and Q-value measurements at JYFLTRAP Penning trap.
• Data analysis and interpretation of results.
• Presentation of findings at international conferences and publication in peer-reviewed journals.
• Development and upgrades related to the JYFLTRAP Penning trap.
• Participation in experiments at the IGISOL facility.
