Job summary

University of Jyväskylä invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in experimental nuclear astrophysics starting January 2027 for a 2‑year fixed-term project. The role is within the IGISOL group, focusing on mass measurements and decay spectroscopy at the JYFL accelerator laboratory.

The successful candidate will use Penning traps and MR-ToF-MS, supervise students, and present at international conferences, with a strong international research environment and travel support.

Qualifications

• Experience in ion trapping and charged-particle manipulation techniques.
• Experience in mass spectrometry, preferably with a Penning trap and/or MR-ToF-MS.
• Familiarity with production of radioactive ion beams.
• Strong background in nuclear astrophysics is an asset.
• Proficiency in Python and data analysis; mentoring of students.

Responsibilities

• Perform atomic mass measurements with JYFLTRAP and MR-ToF-MS at IGISOL.
• Contribute to development and application of JYFLTRAP/MR-ToF-MS in decay spectroscopy.
• Participate in experiments at IGISOL radioactive-ion-beam facility.
• Present results at conferences and publish in journals.
• Supervise students and summer trainees.
