Job summary

Fortum is seeking a Design Engineer in the Nuclear Safety team (Engineering & Projects) based in Espoo, Finland. You will work with experts to support preliminary work for nuclear newbuild, external customers, and co-owned units.

The role centers on severe accident analysis and model development with contributions across compliance and regulatory topics. You will collaborate with internal and external partners to deliver robust safety analyses for Finnish and international projects, while

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or relevant degree in nuclear engineering, energy technology, power plant engineering or physics.
• Experience with MELCOR, MAAP, CONTAIN, or other lumped-parameter codes.
• Proficient in using Python for post-processing, data analysis, and automation of engineering tasks.
• Solid understanding of nuclear power plant technologies and severe accident phenomena (IVR knowledge is a plus).
• Fluent English; ability to read Finnish; Swedish is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Perform, report, and deliver severe accident analyses using MELCOR.
• Maintain and develop the severe accident analysis model of Loviisa NPP.
• Evaluate and develop severe accident management concepts for new nuclear projects.
• Collaborate with nuclear experts and external partners to create solutions for customers in Finland and internationally.
• Support compliance with nuclear regulatory requirements and export control requirements.
