Job description

Overview

Arctic Instruments specializes in microwave readout solutions for quantum tech developers. Our flagship product is a near-quantum-limited superconducting microwave amplifier designed for high-fidelity qubit readout. The company was founded in late 2024 as a spin-off of VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd.

As a Measurement Trainee, you work on and improve various aspects of our hardware product characterization in Espoo, Finland. You will assist in setting up hardware and software for microwave measurements. The work is carried out in a laboratory hosting a cryogenic system where our devices are cooled down to millikelvin temperatures. You will prepare and/or operate radio-frequency test and measurement instrumentation to validate the electrical performance of the setup and the superconducting devices.

The ideal candidate
  • You have a university background in physics, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Depending on your interests, the work can be tailored towards one or more of the following directions:
    • Drawing from your programming experience, you create reliable computer-controlled measurement procedures.
    • You are assigned hands-on, practical engineering tasks such as the assembly and test of microwave wiring.
    • You study measurement protocols and metrics related to the interplay between an amplifier and a quantum bit (qubit) with dispersive readout. This will guide the planning and operation of a test setup where our products are characterized together with superconducting qubits.
  • You have good interaction and collaboration skills and fluent English.
  • Basic understanding of microwave engineering, superconducting quantum devices, and/or cryogenics is an asset, but not required.

We appreciate willingness to learn, a professional attitude toward teamwork, and the ability to work independently.

We offer
  • The dynamic work environment of a deep-tech start-up company.
  • You will be part of developing groundbreaking technology that propels quantum computing toward real world impact.
  • As a valued member of our team, you will learn from your mentor and other professionals with deep expertise in superconducting quantum technology.
How to apply

Please apply by sending an email to recruitment@arcticinst.io with your contact details, CV, transcript of study records, and a cover letter by February 3, 2026 at the latest. We review applications on a rolling basis, and the interviews can be started already during the application period.

The employment type is a paid, full-time, fixed-term traineeship. The minimum duration is three months. The expected starting date is between April and June 2026, but can be negotiated case by case.
