Job summary

Comatec is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to take technical ownership of HVAC systems on demanding shipbuilding projects. Based at our Helsinki or Turku sites, you will lead system design and development from basic design through procurement, testing, commissioning and production support.

The role requires five years of relevant experience, a degree in mechanical/HVAC engineering, and strong skills in AutoCAD or MagiCAD, documentation, and cross‑disciplinary coordination.

Qualifications

• Degree in mechanical engineering, HVAC engineering or related technical field.
• Minimum five years of experience in design or development of HVAC-related systems.
• Experience in shipbuilding and marine project practices.
• Knowledge of equipment sizing, system calculations, material and component selection, and technical documentation.
• Experience working with classification society, authority or client requirements.

Responsibilities

• Take technical ownership of the assigned HVAC system throughout the project and ensure compliance with client, shipyard, authority and classification society requirements.
• Prepare, maintain, and submit comprehensive technical documentation—including system and piping diagrams, component lists, material information, system descriptions, calculations, and arrangements—for approval by the client, classification society, and relevant authorities.
• Define equipment, components and materials, prepare technical procurement specifications, evaluate supplier proposals and provide technical support for purchasing.
• Manage system‑related changes and assess their impact on interfaces with other systems.
• Coordinate with other designers, shipbuilding, production, project personnel and suppliers to ensure functional system interfaces.
• Prepare test programmes, participate in FAT inspections and technical reviews, and support commissioning.
• Provide technical support to production and resolve design- and installation‑related issues.
