Job description

About Dispelix

At Dispelix we develop and deliver see-through waveguide combiners that are used as transparent displays in augmented reality (AR) devices. Our elegant, high-performance AR waveguides seamlessly combine the virtual and the real. We are a trusted and visionary partner for the industry leaders in AR, enabling them to redefine the form, function, and feel of AR wearables. Dispelix is headquartered in Finland.

About the role

As we continue to scale customer programs, improve execution speed, and bring new products and manufacturing processes to production, we are looking for a Manufacturing Lead to strengthen our Product Engineering team in Espoo. The role focuses on industrialization, manufacturing readiness, and building repeatable ways of working from early development to scalable delivery.

You will be part of our Product Engineering team, working at the intersection of R&D, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, suppliers and customer programs. Together, we make sure that new products and processes are ready for reliable, scalable manufacturing.

In this role you will own the manufacturing workstream in customer and internal projects. This is not a line-management position, but a project-driven technical leadership role in manufacturing.

What you will do
  • Drive industrialization and manufacturing readiness in NRE and customer projects (prototype → pilot → production)
  • Develop repeatable Product Engineering ways of working that improve lead time, predictability, manufacturability and execution quality across internal and customer-driven deliverables
  • Define manufacturing concepts, process flows, assembly methods, and test strategy together with R&D, and help turn early prototypes into repeatable manufacturing solutions
  • Lead DFM/DFA activities and ensure design intent is converted into repeatable, manufacturable solutions
  • Partner with R&D to translate product and process requirements into robust process windows and clear acceptance criteria (e.g., high‑precision assembly, coatings/thin films, metrology, cleanroom practices where relevant)
  • Own manufacturing documentation: work instructions, process specs, control plans, and acceptance criteria
  • Plan and execute production ramp‑up: capacity, yield, cycle time, and quality targets; drive root‑cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Use Lean thinking to identify constraints, reduce waiting time and rework, and improve the flow from engineering decisions to manufacturing execution
  • Work closely with suppliers/contract manufacturers in RFQ, NPI builds, and ongoing production support
  • Track manufacturing KPIs and use data to improve stability, yield and product quality
We expect you to have
  • Hands‑on experience in manufacturing engineering / industrialization / NPI in a high‑tech environment
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, tolerances, quality requirements and lead time drivers, and how they translate into stable and predictable production
  • Ability to drive DFM/DFA with R&D and make pragmatic trade‑offs between performance, cost, yield and schedule
  • Experience with process validation and risk management (e.g., PFMEA, control plans, capability and acceptance criteria)
  • Proven ability to improve manufacturing flow through data, structured problem solving and practical continuous improvement actions
  • Comfortable working across disciplines and organizational boundaries, including external suppliers/contract manufacturers
  • BSc/MSc in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Physics, or a related field) or equivalent hands‑on experience
  • Typically, 5–10+ years of relevant industry experience
We appreciate
  • Experience with supplier/CM management, including NPI builds, audits, and performance follow‑up
  • Background in precision manufacturing (optics, micro‑structures, coatings/thin films, cleanroom work, or other high‑tolerance processes)
  • Familiarity with micro‑/nano‑manufacturing or semiconductor manufacturing methods is a plus (e.g., cleanroom workflows, photolithography/replication, thin‑film deposition/coating, etching/ablation, wafer‑level thinking and metrology)
  • Experience with metrology and measurement system thinking (e.g., capability, repeatability, correlation)
  • Familiarity with quality methods and problem solving (e.g., 8D, CAPA, DOE, SPC)
  • Lean manufacturing mindset and hands‑on experience with continuous improvement methods; Six Sigma experience, such as Green Belt, is a plus
  • Understanding of cost drivers and manufacturing economics (cycle time, scrap, yield, tooling)
  • Interest in data‑driven approaches for yield and process optimization
As a person, we hope that you
  • Are open-minded with a passion for AR and technology in general
  • Are comfortable working individually or as a part of a team
  • Enjoy working in a challenge-driven, collaborative, and international work environment and are not afraid to challenge the status quo
  • Are positive and communicate in a friendly and direct way
