Job summary

Speechify in Helsinki is seeking an experienced Windows desktop engineer to own the design, architecture, and delivery of our native Windows applications. You will drive accessibility, performance, and maintainability across Windows 10/11+, collaborating with product designers, QA, and engineers.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in Windows desktop application development using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, and XAML, with native C++ experience preferred.
• Deep understanding of Windows application architecture including interop between managed and native code.
• Proven track record shipping production-quality desktop apps with a focus on reliability and performance.
• Strong experience with accessibility APIs on Windows and commitment to inclusive software.
• Solid fundamentals in OOP, design patterns, data structures, memory mgmt, and multi-threading/async programming.
• Experience leading technical design, mentoring engineers, code reviews, and architecture-level decisions.
• Excellent communication skills and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ as needed.
• Define and enforce best practices for Windows desktop development across the codebase (architecture, performance, memory usage, UI responsiveness).
• Drive accessibility efforts and ensure UI controls, keyboard navigation, screen-reader support for users with disabilities.
• Collaborate with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and others to shape feature planning and long-term roadmap for the Windows platform.
• Own full lifecycle of features from conception to maintenance and release with a focus on quality and reliability.
• Identify and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, and cross-version compatibility.
