Job summary

Vaisala seeks a Lead AI Developer to join its AI Transformation team at the Vaisala headquarters in Vantaa, Finland. You will shape how Vaisala builds and scales AI, delivering agentic solutions with governance and security considerations across the company.

You will collaborate with data scientists, AI developers and architects, reporting to the VP of AI, Innovation & Transformation. This role emphasizes practical AI deployment and safe, scalable architecture.

Qualifications

• Strong background in AI, machine learning and software development.
• Experience building production-ready AI solutions with LLMs or AI agents.
• Educational background in computer science, machine learning, AI, software engineering or relevant field.
• Strong programming skills; Python is an advantage.
• Experience with APIs, cloud platforms, integrations and modern software practices.
• Solid understanding of deep learning fundamentals and optimization techniques.
• Knowledge of AI security, architecture and responsible AI.
• English communication and collaboration skills.

What's your role?

You will be part of our AI Transformation team of strong professionals. Together with the team, you will have an excellent opportunity to strengthen Vaisala’s AI-focused transformation and build scalable, trustworthy agentic AI solutions across the company. You will be responsible for turning AI from promising ideas into practical solutions used in daily work, with strong attention to technical choices, governance, security, and responsible implementation. In this role, you will work in close co-operation with the AI Developer team in Digital Excellence, AI developers across Vaisala, product development teams, architects and Vaisala’s information security community. You will report to the Vice President, AI, Innovation & Business Transformation.

Your responsibilities include:

Designing, building, and deploying well-engineered, reliable AI solutions and workflows that solve real business problems.

Make decisions and execute implementation of use-cases across business domains, from simple document processing and case resolution to complex process workflows.

Integrating AI solutions into existing systems and platforms , with built-in security, scalability and maintainability

Defining and implementing the technical standards and architecture patterns for AI agents and human-AI orchestrations

Running applied research work , assessing emerging models and techniques, prototyping against real Vaisala data/use-cases, and deciding what is production-ready

Acting as a technical authority on AI across Vaisala — supporting other developers and architects, reviewing designs, raising the bar on how we build

What will you bring?

Strong background in AI, machine learning and software development

Experience building production-ready AI solutions with LLMs or AI agents

Relevant educational background in computer science, machine learning, AI, software engineering or relevant field

Strong programming skills, Python seen as an advantage

Experience with APIs, cloud platforms, integrations, and modern software development practices

In-depth, "under the hood" understanding of deep learning fundamentals - including layer architectures, loss functions, and optimization techniques.

Hands-on experience with PyTorch or another major deep learning framework (e.g., TensorFlow) seen as advantage.

Understanding of AI security, architecture and responsible AI with the ability to evaluate and apply new AI technologies and research

Genuine curiosity to understand the business, learn the evolving technology and service oriented mindset towards business solutions

Strong communication and collaboration skills in English
