Job summary

The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Helsinki invites applications for Doctoral Researcher in Global Development Studies. The fixed-term post starts 1 March 2027 and requires full-time work, including fieldwork in Brazil and publication of research findings.

Fluent Portuguese and English are required. A master’s degree with excellent grades is essential; the appointee will pursue a doctoral degree, spend time in Brazil, and reside in Finland during employment.

Qualifications

• The candidate holds a master’s degree with excellent grades in global development studies or related fields.
• Demonstrated motivation to pursue doctoral studies and a strong research proposal.
• Experience or exposure to research in Brazil, with language skills in Portuguese and English.

Responsibilities

• Produce research material in Brazil through fieldwork, interviews and observation.
• Publish articles independently and jointly based on empirical material.
• Participate in project communications and organise project events.
• Teach up to 5% of annual working time.
• Collaborate with the Principal Investigator on related WP activities.
