Nordea is seeking a Senior Data Scientist / AI Engineer to join our AI & Machine Learning team in Helsinki, working in a hybrid model. You will prototype new AI use cases, implement and monitor AI applications, and mentor junior teammates in a dynamic English-speaking environment.

A senior Data Scientist / AI Engineer role based in Stockholm or Helsinki. The role is permanent, hybrid model with an expectation to work approximately three days per week in the office. The working environment is English‑speaking.

About Our Team

The AI & Machine Learning team is part of the Group Financial Crime Prevention (GFCP) unit and focuses on detecting and investigating financial crime with the help of AI and machine learning. The team is about 25 people located in Stockholm, Helsinki and Copenhagen. We released Nordea’s first internal generative AI product and are now developing more use cases to improve financial crime prevention services.

Main Responsibilities

• Prototype and explore the feasibility of new AI use cases in collaboration with business stakeholders
• Implement, deploy and monitor AI applications
• Rigorously evaluate and improve the quality of AI applications
• Keep up to date with the latest AI developments to shape Gen AI best practices and tooling
• Mentor junior teammates
• Document models and processes to ensure compliance and meet compliance and risk‑management standards

Qualifications

• MSc or PhD in predictive or statistical modelling, software development or related fields. Equivalent practical experience is also valued.
• 5+ years experience delivering production ML/AI systems in Python, with a focus on rapid development and iteration.
• Exposure to multiple Gen AI projects using commercial grade LLM APIs, RAG, MCP, A2A.
• Strong ML & AI systems design skills.
• A proven track‑record of taking ideas to POCs and POCs to successful products.
• A knack for tackling complex problems and creating simple solutions.
• Strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills, explaining complex ideas and technology across domains.
