Job summary

Nordea seeks a Lead Developer for Financial Crime Prevention Models to design, analyse and optimise transaction monitoring models within the GFCP TMU. You will contribute to model development, validation, governance and documentation, collaborating with analytics to strengthen AML/CTF controls across the Nordea Group.

The role offers responsibility for setting the direction of model development, prototyping tests and guiding the team in data governance, tuning and monitoring of model operations.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a quantitative field (e.g., CS, actuarial science, statistics, mathematics).
  • Experience in Financial Crime/AML and with transaction monitoring is preferred.
  • Experience as model validator or quantitative risk analyst is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Own development and validation of transaction monitoring models, focusing on documentation and governance.
  • Drive model governance activities within TMU, including validation assessments and second-line feedback.
  • Set direction for model development and experimental design, balancing rigor with practicality.
  • Document model design and outcomes, iterating with analytics team on assumptions and limitations.

Lead Developer for Financial Crime Prevention Models, specialised in Model Development, for the “Design, Review, Optimise and Model Management” team. The role will contribute to designing, analysing and optimising transaction monitoring models to strengthen AML/CTF control environment. This is an opportunity to help fight financial crime in Nordea.

About This Opportunity

The team operates within the Transaction Monitoring Unit (TMU) of the Group Financial Crime Prevention (GFCP) function. We develop, manage and optimise automated TM controls across the Nordea Group, ensuring customers and the bank are not used for illegal activities.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Own development and validation of transaction monitoring models, focusing on model documentation, review and governance.
  • Drive model governance activities within the TMU, including validation assessments and implementation of second‑line feedback.
  • Set and execute the direction for model development and experimental design, balancing analytical rigor with practical constraints.
  • Document model design and outcomes, iterating with the analytics team to ensure accuracy, completeness and analysis of assumptions, limitations and weaknesses.
  • Provide hands‑on support for prototyping tests and analytical methodologies.
  • Mentor and collaborate with the analytics team to design, test and implement model SOPs (data lineage/governance, tuning and calibration, monitoring of model operations).
  • Represent the organisation professionally in collaboration with both external and internal stakeholders.

The role is based in either Tallinn, Warsaw or Helsinki.

To Succeed in This Role
  • Extensive experience in model risk management, model governance and validation.
  • Strong background in data science, statistics and quantitative methods.
  • Experience in academic or technical writing, particularly for model documentation.
Your Experience and Background
  • Advanced degree in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or equivalent).
  • Experience in Financial Crime/AML (e.g., transaction monitoring and technology suppliers) – preferred.
  • Experience as model validator or quantitative risk analyst – preferred.
