Job summary

Cathcart Technology is seeking an Embedded Software Developer for a freelance assignment in Finland, with hybrid remote work and periodic on-site testing in Turku, Raisio, or Tampere. The role focuses on CODESYS-based control logic, C/C++ applications, and hardware integrations.

Embedded Software Developer – CODESYS & C

Freelance | €60-75/hour | Turku / Tampere / Hybrid | Initial 3-4 months

We are looking for an experienced Embedded Software Developer to join an industrial R&D project focused on control systems for heavy machinery.

This is an initial 3-4 month freelance assignment, starting as soon as the right person is available, with a strong possibility of extension.

The project involves the continued development and modernisation of load handling control systems, including developing application layers for new hardware modules and integrating CODESYS-based control logic with C/C++ applications.

We’re particularly interested in speaking with developers who have strong practical experience with CODESYS and PLC development, alongside knowledge of C or C++.

What you’ll be working on

• Developing and updating control system applications using CODESYS
• Developing application layers for new EPEC hardware modules
• Working with C/C++ applications alongside CODESYS-based control logic
• Supporting integrations and migrations between CODESYS runtime and other applications
• Contributing to functional safety and requirements management
• Testing software against physical hardware and machinery

What we’re looking for

The key requirement is strong hands-on experience with CODESYS development and PLC logic.

Experience in some of the following would also be beneficial:

• C and/or C++ development

• Mobile or heavy machinery

You don’t necessarily need experience across every area. If you have strong CODESYS experience alongside a background in embedded or industrial control systems, we’d be keen to hear from you.

Location & working model

The majority of development work can be completed remotely, but you will need to be able to attend Raisio/Turku or Tampere for hardware, bench or vehicle testing when required.

The working language is English, with Finnish considered beneficial but not essential.

Contract

Rate: €60-75/hour

Initial duration: 3-4 months, with a good possibility of extension

Start: September/October 2026, or as agreed

Location: Turku/Raisio or Tampere + remote working
