Electrical HV Project Manager- Data Centre
Join our Data Centre team in Oulu, Finland as an Electrical Construction Project Manager responsible for overseeing the pre‑construction, construction, commissioning, and close‑out phases of a hyperscale, state‑of‑the‑art data centre project for a global technology client.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage electrical pre‑construction activities, including constructability reviews, procurement, contracts, project planning, and budget planning to ensure on‑time delivery at the highest quality standards.
- Lead and manage electrical construction activities, ensuring the project is delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Oversee electrical system installations, including substation, transformers, switchrooms, HV, MV & LV, life safety, and other associated systems.
- Ensure electrical designs align with the overall design intent and client expectations, managing any issues that arise during construction.
Pre‑Construction Phase Oversight
- Assist the design team in constructability and localization focusing mainly on electrical systems while collaborating with other disciplines.
- Ensure compliance with building codes, regulations, and safety protocols.
- Provide technical guidance on electrical system installations, ensuring contract documents and specifications are relevant to the region.
- Play a pivotal role in the procurement of contractors and vendors.
Construction Phase Oversight
- Manage and supervise electrical subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers to ensure work meets specifications and safety standards.
- Maintain full‑time on‑site presence to conduct inspections and supervise construction activities.
- Ensure construction activities comply with building codes, regulations, and safety protocols.
- Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting on electrical system installations, ensuring all work aligns with contract documents and specifications.
- Manage health and safety on site.
- Oversee the commissioning process of electrical systems to ensure full operational performance and compliance with criteria.
- Lead the electrical system testing and commissioning process, ensuring all relevant documentation (test reports, as‑built drawings, O&M manuals) is accurate and handed over to the client.
- Assist in final project close‑out and ensure seamless handover of electrical systems to the client.
Owner’s Representation
- Act as the primary point of contact between the client and the construction team for electrical issues.
- Provide advice and recommendations to the client, protecting their interests throughout the project lifecycle.
- Proactively identify and manage risks related to electrical systems and recommend mitigation strategies.
Quality Control & Compliance
- Ensure all electrical work adheres to quality standards and local regulations.
- Review and approve subcontractor invoices and work schedules.
- Conduct site safety audits and ensure compliance with all health and safety standards.
Budget & Schedule Management
- Monitor and report on the progress of electrical work against the project schedule and budget.
- Track project costs, identifying and addressing cost overruns or delays.
- Ensure that changes in scope are managed efficiently with proper documentation and approval processes.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Professional certifications (e.g., PMP, LEED) are a plus.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in electrical construction project management on construction sites, including data centre projects.
- Proven experience managing large, complex electrical system installations and commissioning processes.
- Expertise in electrical systems commonly used in data centres (HV/MV/LV, substations, switchgear, controls, life safety, energy management systems).
- Experience with owner’s representation and working directly with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of electrical design, construction methods, and systems integration.
- Excellent project management skills, including planning, scheduling, and budgeting.
- Proficiency in construction management software and tools (e.g., BIM360, Autodesk applications, Primavera P6).
- Excellent communication skills, able to present technical information to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Highly organized with attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Ability to navigate complex stakeholder relationships and manage expectations effectively.
- Client‑focused and proactive in identifying and resolving issues.
- Availability for on‑site work.
