University of Eastern Finland, in the Molecular Physiology group, seeks a Doctoral Researcher to study transcriptional regulation in cardiovascular disease. The role involves CRISPR-engineered hiPSC cardiomyocytes, BioID proteomics, and ChIP-seq, with close collaboration with physiologists.
The three-year appointment starts December 2026 on-site at Kuopio campus, with progression into the Faculty’s Doctoral Programme and potential title change to Doctoral Researcher.

The University of Eastern Finland is recruiting a three-year doctoral-pathway researcher to investigate dysregulated transcription in cardiovascular disease using CRISPR-engineered hiPSC cardiomyocyte models, proximity proteomics and ChIP-seq. Applications close on 29 October 2026 at 23:59 Europe/Helsinki.
The position is part of the Research Council of Finland project “Deciphering and Targeting Dysregulated Transcription in Cardiovascular Disease” in UEF's Molecular Physiology group. The researcher will investigate a transcriptional regulator linked to ageing-associated cardiovascular disease and test ways to understand and therapeutically target its function. Experimental work includes generating CRISPR-mediated loss-of-function and knock-in human induced pluripotent stem-cell lines, differentiating them into cardiomyocytes and building two- and three-dimensional disease models. The project combines BioID proximity proteomics, ChIP-seq, gene-expression analysis, immunocytochemistry, immunoblotting, microscopy, protein biochemistry and molecular biology, followed by testing candidate chemical inhibitors in validated hiPSC-cardiomyocyte models. The researcher will work closely with physiologists to characterize cell phenotypes and will analyse data, prepare manuscripts and present findings. The appointment begins as Project Researcher; after the successful candidate is admitted to the Faculty's Doctoral Programme, the title can change to Doctoral Researcher. The role is full time and onsite at UEF's Kuopio campus.

MSc degree, or a degree qualifying for doctoral studies in the awarding country, in a relevant discipline from a recognized higher-education institution.
Hands-on laboratory work and independent research ability are required. Cell culture, molecular-biology methods, live-cell imaging, protein chemistry, gene editing, iPSC-derived models, cardiac physiology and R/Python are advantageous.
The applicant must not hold a doctoral degree at the call deadline. To become a Doctoral Researcher, the selected candidate must be eligible for postgraduate studies and apply for and be accepted into the Faculty's Doctoral Programme after employment begins.
