Qualifications

  • Familiarity with automation protocols (OPC UA, Modbus, IEC 60870-5, IEC61850) is advantageous.
  • Strong code quality and reliability mindset; emphasis on robust unit testing.
  • Experience with Git, Jenkins, and JIRA is beneficial.
  • Fluent written and spoken English; Finnish is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and contribute to connectivity solutions for automation platforms.
  • Collaborate in an R&D team to maintain and enhance Valmet DNAe product and integration frameworks.
  • Apply modern agile practices and maintain high-quality, testable software.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and CI/CD activities to ensure reliable releases.

Software Engineer, Connectivity (SW) Are you skilled in software development and want to be in the frontline developing next-generation automation systems? We are looking for a Software Engineer to contribute independently and collaboratively to development of automation connectivity solutions. You will be joining the Automation Platform R&D unit in Valmet’s Automation Solutions Business Area, Tampere, Finland. This is an opportunity to work with cutting-edge software technologies in an organization that embraces modern agile methods, offering a path to grow as a distinguished R&D professional in the dynamic field of automation.

Expectations for you
  • At least 2 years of hands-on software development experience, preferably with C++
  • Experience working in automation environments is considered an advantage
  • It is strong advantage if you have previous experience with automation protocols such as OPC UA, Modbus, IEC 60870-5 or IEC61850.
  • You write clean, maintainable code and value reliability.
  • You understand the importance of robust unit testing.
  • Our solutions are built to operate for decades.
  • You don’t need to be a DevOps expert, but familiarity with test automation and CI/CD practices is valuable.
  • Experience with tools such as Git, Jenkins, and JIRA is considered a plus.
  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Software Engineering or a related field
  • Strong written and spoken English skills.
  • Finnish skills are an advantage
