Job summary

SEB in Finland is seeking an experienced Data Engineer for the Financial Crime Prevention team. You will build and maintain Java-based services and data processing capabilities to detect suspicious behavior and support investigations.

You will work end-to-end—from design and implementation to testing, deployment, and operations—in close collaboration with engineers, analysts, and stakeholders in a highly collaborative environment.

Qualifications

Would you like to work with a team of highly skilled Software Engineers to build solutions that empower complex investigations? We’re looking for an experienced Data Engineer with strong Java skills to join our Financial Crime Prevention team—where backend engineering, data, and purpose align to detect and prevent bad actors.

About the role

As a Data Engineer in the Financial Crime Prevention team, you will build and maintain Java-based services and data processing capabilities that enable us to detect suspicious behavior and support investigations. You will work end-to-end—from design and implementation to testing, deployment, and operations,in close collaboration with engineers, analysts, and stakeholders in a highly collaborative environment.

To thrive in this role, we believe you have:

• Experience building data pipelines (streaming and/or batch) and working with large-scale datasets
• Solid experience with Java (e.g., Java 11+) and building backend services (Spring/Spring Boot or similar)
• Hands-on with streaming/messaging (e.g., PubSub) and event-driven architectures
• Experience with batch processing frameworks (e.g., Beam) and data modelling
• Familiarity with CI/CD, automated testing, and observability for production systems
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform) and working in cloud environments
• Nice to have: schema registry experience and/or graph databases
• Analytical mindset and ability to solve complex technical problems
• Curiosity and a drive for continuous learning and professional growth
• A collaborative team player who enjoys sharing knowledge and learning from others
• Experience using LLMs as part of your development workflow, either professionally or through personal projects
