Nortal invites a hands-on Data & AI Engineer to join a Finnish industrial sector client, based in Helsinki on-site. You will translate prioritized business use cases into production data pipelines and AI solutions, collaborating with data, AI, platform and architecture specialists to operate within a broader enterprise environment.

Expect to work across data pipelines, agentic AI, and enterprise IT, from scoping to production, with a focus on delivering value within weeks.

Qualifications

• Strong data engineering skills: designing, building and productionising pipelines.
• Experience with Databricks or a comparable platform, and the ability to pick it up quickly.
• Solid data modelling skills.
• Hands-on AI engineering experience with agentic solutions, such as LLM APIs, agent frameworks and orchestration, tool calling, RAG and MCP.
• General enterprise IT understanding: networking, identity and access management (Entra), cloud (GCP or Azure), APIs and integrations, and security practices.
• Taking ownership: communicate clearly with both business and technical people.

Responsibilities

Overview

Are you a Data Engineer or Architect who likes taking an idea all the way to production, close to the business and without waiting for a finished spec? Are you equally at home with data pipelines, agentic AI solutions and enterprise IT? Then this role might be just right for you.

Nortal is looking for a hands-onData & AI Engineer to join our team and work at a large Finnish industrial sector company, strengthening the execution of their data and AI programme. You will sit inside the client's team and take prioritised business use cases from scoping to production, so that ideas reach production and start delivering value within weeks. You will work alongside the client's data, AI, platform and architecture specialists, and AI-assisted and agentic development (Claude Code or similar) is a core part of how the work is done.

The role covers a lot of ground, from data pipelines to agentic AI and enterprise IT, and breadth is what makes it interesting. Your first assignments could include, for example, migrating business pipelines onto the data platform, transaction monitoring, and FinOps and AI usage reporting with Entra integrations and dashboards.

What you will do

• Take business use cases from scoping to production, working closely with business stakeholders and technical teams.
• Design, build and productionise data pipelines and prepare data for downstream use.
• Build agentic AI solutions on top of the data platform.
• Work with the client's data, AI, platform and architecture experts to make solutions fit the wider enterprise environment.
• Own both the design and the hands-on delivery, and keep things moving even when the full picture isn't clear yet.

What will help you to succeed

• Strong data engineering skills: designing, building and productionising pipelines.
• Experience with Databricks or a comparable platform, and the ability to pick it up quickly.
• Solid data modelling skills.
• Hands-on AI engineering experience with agentic solutions, such as LLM APIs, agent frameworks and orchestration, tool calling, RAG and MCP.

• Taking ownership: you can make progress without a finished spec and communicate clearly with both business and technical people.
• Good English skills. Finnish or Swedish is a plus.

Nice to have:

ML or data science, BI and dashboards, DataOps or MLOps, and integration platforms such as Frends.

Location

worth being clear about: the role is on-site at the client's Helsinki office, with flexibility agreed case by case. The whole working model depends on being physically close to the business, so this isn't one that can be done fully remote.
