Job summary

EY Finland's Competition Law team in Helsinki is looking for an early-career competition law professional to join our Finnish law team. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or a lawyer with up to two years of relevant experience to build expertise in competition law in an international and multidisciplinary environment.

Qualifications

• Finnish Master of Laws degree or equivalent qualification.
• 0–2 years of relevant experience from a law firm, in‑house legal team, public authority or other legal role; internships or traineeships are an advantage.
• Genuine interest in competition law and motivation to develop expertise in the field.
• Strong analytical, legal research and written communication skills.
• Fluency in Finnish and English.

Responsibilities

• Assist with Finnish and EU competition law matters and foreign direct investment (FDI) screening.
• Contribute to merger control and FDI assessments, notifications and related authority processes.
• Support collection and review of information for regulatory filings.
• Assist in behavioural competition law, state aid and public procurement matters.
• Conduct legal and factual research and prepare analyses.
• Draft legal memoranda, presentations and client materials.
• Monitor legal and regulatory developments; support project coordination; contribute to broader M&A assignments.

As part of our team of around 50 lawyers in Finland, you will have the opportunity to learn from experienced colleagues, contribute to varied client assignments and develop a strong foundation in competition law. You will join a dynamic, low-hierarchy team that works closely with our M&A legal practice in Helsinki, as well as with colleagues across our nationwide and global network.

While competition law will be your core area of expertise, you may also contribute to broader M&A assignments depending on client and team needs. This will give you an opportunity to develop a broader understanding of transactions, clients’ businesses and multidisciplinary advisory work.

Your key responsibilities

In this role, you will work alongside experienced colleagues on client assignments related primarily to Finnish and EU competition law and foreign direct investment (FDI) screening. Depending on your experience and development, your responsibilities may include:

• assisting with merger control and FDI assessments, notifications and related authority processes;
• supporting the collection and review of information required for regulatory filings;
• assisting in other competition law matters, including behavioural competition law, state aid and public procurement;
• conducting legal and factual research and preparing analyses;
• drafting legal memoranda, presentations and other client materials;
• monitoring legal and regulatory developments;
• supporting project coordination in domestic and cross-border assignments; and
• contributing to broader M&A assignments, including legal due diligence.

You will receive hands-on guidance and coaching from the team, while gradually gaining greater ownership of assignments and opportunities for direct client interaction.

Skills and attributes for success

• A completed Finnish Master of Laws degree or equivalent qualification
• 0–2 years of relevant experience from a law firm, in‑house legal team, public authority or other legal role; relevant internships or traineeships are considered an advantage
• A genuine interest in competition law and motivation to develop your expertise in the field
• Strong analytical, legal research and written communication skills
• Fluency in Finnish and English
