Job summary

Wärtsilä Oyj Abp in Finland seeks a Chief Project Engineer for Electrical and Automation to lead delivery of contractual solutions in customer projects. The role will focus on supervising services, purchasing, quality, and budgets, in close cooperation with the Project Manager and stakeholders.

• Technical understanding of engine power plants and their solutions, with emphasis on medium/high voltage and BESS systems.
• Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.

• Personal drive to develop skills, tools and ways of working – both for yourself and others.
• Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships.
• Willingness to travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of the contractual technical solution in customer delivery projects.
• Supervise ordered services, purchasing, quality, contract compliance, customer satisfaction, schedules and budget within your area.
• Collaborate with Project Manager and other project stakeholders; adjust tasks based on skills and interests.
• Plan and manage works (design release, purchasing, etc.) under your responsibility with total costs, schedule and customer needs in focus, from initiation to closing.
• Manage activities (engineering, procurement, manpower, logistics, site) with vendors and internal team.
• Follow-up and report on quality, resources, costs, schedule and scope.
• Identify, mitigate, monitor and report risks in your area.
• Act as a substitute to Project Manager when needed; provide sales support when needed.

Job description

We are looking for a Chief Project Engineer for Electrical and Automation discipline with a main responsibility in leading the delivery of the contractual technical solution in customer delivery projects. The preferred location for this position is Vaasa, Finland but also Helsinki is negotiable. We offer the possibility of hybrid work with certain terms.

As a Chief Project Engineer your work will include supervision of ordered services, purchasing, quality, contract/requirement overall compliance, customer satisfaction, schedules and budget of your responsibility area. Within close cooperation with Project Manager and other project stakeholders. The tasks can also be adjusted based on your individual skills and interests. You’ll be working as a part of spirited Energy Services Upgrades Project team with diverse expertise.

Your work will focus on these responsibilities:

• Participate in customer/stakeholder negotiations and maintain good customer/stakeholder relationships


• Understanding the contract and adapting its requirements to the project solution.


• Plan and manage works (e.g. purchase, approve and release of designs) under own responsibility area, according to contract requirements with the total costs, schedule and customer needs in focus, from the project initiation to the closing.


• Manage project activities in your responsibility according to contract/requirements, such as engineering, procurement, manpower, logistics, and site activities, together with external vendors and internal team members


• Follow-up and report quality, use of resources, costs, schedule and scope of the responsibility area


• Identify, mitigate, monitor and report risks in own responsibility area


• Act as a substitute to Project Manager when needed


• Provide sales support when needed

To be able to succeed in the position, we expect you to have:

• M.Sc. or B.Sc. in electrical and/or automation engineering


• Project Management business experience, preferably in energy business and power plant projects.


• Technical understanding of engine power plants and their solutions, we especially value medium and high voltage and BESS systems experience


• Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
