Job summary

The Molecular Physiology research group at the A.I. Virtanen Institute, University of Eastern Finland, invites applications for a Project or Doctoral Researcher position at the Kuopio campus. The appointment is fixed-term for 3 years from 1 January 2027 with a trial period.

The salary follows the Finnish university system; the base job element is EUR 2,331.67/month (level 2) and the total starting range is roughly EUR 2,560–2,820/month depending on the personal element.

Qualifications

• MSc degree or equivalent qualification.
• No doctoral degree at the time of the call deadline.
• High motivation to succeed in a fast-paced research environment.
• Ability to conduct independent laboratory research and hands-on work.
• Excellent spoken and written English.

Responsibilities

• Generate loss-of-function hiPSC-derived 2D/3D models using CRISPR.
• Create knock-in hiPSC lines and hiPSC-derived cardiomyocytes for BioID and ChIP-seq.
• Characterize cardiomyocytes via gene expression, immunocytochemistry, and western blotting.
• Develop in vitro hiPSC-CM models and test chemical inhibitors.
• Perform protein biochemistry and molecular biology experiments.
• Collaborate with physiologists to characterize cell phenotypes.
• Work onsite in an international environment, including some weekends.
• Collect data, prepare manuscripts, and present results at meetings.
