The Backend Development Lead will guide a backend team building secure, reliable and scalable services at the core of iLOQ 5 Series+ while staying hands-on with the code. You will drive architectural decisions, promote end-to-end ownership, and collaborate with Product Owners, software

• Proven experience leading backend development teams.
• Hands-on with C# and .NET.
• Experience with cloud-based software development (AWS).
• Understanding of microservice architectures and APIs.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, IaC, automated testing, and modern DevOps.
• Strong written and spoken English.
• Willingness to coach team members.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the backend development activities of the team.
• Support translating product and business priorities into technical plans and delivery.
• Participate hands-on in design and implementation of backend services and APIs.
• Facilitate architectural discussions and key implementation decisions.
• Promote end-to-end ownership including development, testing, releasing, monitoring and maintenance.
• Develop engineering practices related to code quality, reviews, test automation, CI/CD, security and observability.
• Collaborate with Product Owners, Software Architects, Test Leads and cloud specialists.
• Identify dependencies, risks and blockers and drive resolution.
• Coach team members and foster knowledge sharing.

We are now looking for a Backend Development Lead to join our Software organization in Oulu. In this role, you will guide a backend team building the secure, reliable and scalable services at the core of iLOQ 5 Series+, while staying hands‑on with the code yourself. This is a role for an experienced software professional who enjoys solving complex problems, takes ownership beyond writing code and wants to influence both technical solutions and the way software is developed.

What you'll do

• Lead and coordinate the team’s backend development activities
• Support the team in turning product and business priorities into clear, achievable technical plans and predictable delivery without losing sight of quality and long‑term maintainability
• Participate hands‑on in the design and implementation of backend services and APIs
• Facilitate technical discussions and help the team make well‑considered architectural and implementation decisions
• Promote end‑to‑end ownership, including development, testing, releasing, monitoring and maintaining services
• Develop engineering practices related to code quality, reviews, test automation, CI/CD, security and observability, including the effective and responsible use of AI‑assisted engineering tools
• Work closely with Product Owners, Software Architects, Test Leads, cloud specialists and other stakeholders
• Identify dependencies, risks and blockers, and drive their resolution together with the relevant stakeholders
• Coach team members, share knowledge and create an environment where people can learn and take responsibility

What you'll bring

To succeed in this role, we expect you to have:

• Strong professional experience in backend software development, including leading, coordinating or facilitating the work of a development team
• Hands‑on experience with C# and .NET or comparable backend technologies
• Experience with cloud‑based software development, preferably in AWS environments
• A good understanding of microservice architectures, APIs and distributed systems, databases, integrations and cloud‑native development
• Familiarity with CI/CD, infrastructure as code, automated testing and modern DevOps practices
• The ability to combine technical considerations with customer, product and business needs
• The confidence to make progress in a complex environment and help others do the same
• A proactive and collaborative working style with strong communication skills, including professional written and spoken English
• Ability and willingness to coach team members

Experience in any of the following is considered an advantage:

• Secure or business‑critical software systems
• Monitoring, observability and service reliability
• Leading modernization or cloud transformation initiatives
• Working across software, hardware and cloud boundaries
• Applying AI tools and agentic workflows in software engineering
• Coaching developers or facilitating technical communities.
