Job summary

Greenstep, a growing Finnish tech-enabled services group, is hiring a Backend Engineer to build the AI/agent layer on top of our BI platform. You’ll design backend services and APIs in Python/FastAPI, orchestrate AI agents, and expose them through MCP, collaborating with data and frontend teams.

We expect 3+ years of Python backend experience, strong OOP, REST API design, and a practical focus on clean code, testing, and observability.

Qualifications

• 3+ years professional Python backend development, including async programming.
• Strong OOP and clean service architecture.
• Experience designing REST APIs, preferably with FastAPI.
• Hands-on with SQLAlchemy/Alembic for data migrations.
• Experience with AI agent tools and integration workflows.
• Docker-based containerization and CI familiarity.
• Excellent English language skills; Finnish preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop backend services and REST APIs in Python/FastAPI.
• Build and expose agents/tools via MCP (FastMCP).
• Create features on top of semantic models and gold-layer data.
• Design database schemas and migrations with SQLAlchemy/Alembic.
• Write asynchronous, production-grade Python with tests.
• Containerize services with Docker for dev and deployment.
• Instrument observability and debuggability of agent behavior.
• Leverage AI coding tools while maintaining engineering judgment.
