Job summary

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, machine learning, or a related field.
• Proficiency in Python, with collaborative development practices (e.g., Git, code reviews, CI).
• Hands-on experience with signal processing and time-series analysis on real-world biosignals from wearable devices.
• Advanced degree (MSc/PhD) in a STEM field or equivalent work experience.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration in fast-paced environments.

• Support exploratory research to identify and characterize new sensing features and functionality.
• Design and execute data collection studies to develop biomarkers and evaluate algorithms.

• Document, summarize, and present results to technical and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Support feasibility studies for new sensing modalities and contribute input to hardware, firmware, product teams.

We are looking for an Algorithm Scientist to develop and validate the next generation of health sensing algorithms at Oura. Health sensing algorithms underpin the suite of features we offer to our members. As an algorithm scientist, your work will have a wide-ranging impact and provide the foundation for new insights delivered to millions of Oura members around the world.

Location: Oulu, Finland

What you will do:

• Contribute to the research, development and deployment of signal processing and machine learning algorithms for Oura features/products based on a range of sensing modalities.
• Support early-stage exploratory research to identify and characterize new potential sensing features and functionality, and help develop proof-of-concept features in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Support the design and execution of internal and external data collection studies to develop, evaluate, benchmark, and improve new biomarkers and algorithms, and to assess the signal quality of hardware and firmware prototypes.
• Develop and maintain reusable data analysis tools, which can be deployed at scale.
• Document, summarize, and present data analysis and algorithm performance results with actionable recommendations to technical and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Support feasibility studies for new sensing modalities and contribute scientifically grounded input to hardware, firmware, product, and other partner teams.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and overseas stakeholders.

We would love to have you on our team if you have:

• 5+ years of experience in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, machine learning, or a related field.
• Proficiency in Python, including experience with collaborative development practices (e.g., Git, code reviews, CI).
• Hands‑on experience with signal processing and time‑series analysis, ideally using real‑world biosignals and data from wearable devices, including hardware prototypes.
• Good understanding of human physiology and the ability to apply engineering intuition to complex, noisy biosignals.
• Have an advanced degree (MSc/PhD) in a STEM‑related field (e.g. engineering, computer science, mathematics, statistics) or equivalent work experience.
• A pragmatic can‑do attitude and delivery‑focused mindset, with the ability to move quickly and prioritize effectively.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and work effectively with cross‑functional teams in a fast‑paced environment.
