Job description

Location: Helsinki or Tampere preferred (hybrid, Finland only)

Before anything gets built, it has to be understood.

At Brillian, that’s basically the AI Scientist’s job: take messy real-world problems, turn them into something you can reason about, and help build solutions that still make sense once they leave the notebook and meet production.

We’re continuously looking to meet AI Scientists who enjoy digging into complexity and turning it into something measurable, testable, and useful. We don’t always have a matching project starting immediately, but when the fit is right, we’ll stay in close contact and move quickly when something clicks.

What our projects typically look like

Our work sits in the sweet spot between “researchy” thinking and practical delivery. The topics vary, but they often include:

  • GenAI and LLM-enabled solutions
  • Forecasting and other predictive modeling
  • Synthetic data simulation and data augmentation
  • Anomaly detection and monitoring
  • Optimization problems where the trade-offs are the whole point

Some projects start with exploration and experiments, others go straight into scaling and running in production. Quite often you’ll be operating somewhere in between: validating assumptions, making decisions with imperfect data, and figuring out what actually works in real use.

What you’ll likely be doing

Depending on the client and the stage, you might be:

  • Turning real-world problems into solvable AI questions (and knowing what not to solve)
  • Designing experiments that focus on trade-offs, robustness, uncertainty, and real-world value, not just accuracy
  • Applying and adapting statistical, ML, and optimization techniques and knowing when to go back to basics
  • Working hands‑on with data: collecting, cleaning, validating, augmenting, simulating
  • Collaborating with AI engineers and clients to get things into production and keep them working
  • Helping clients understand both the potential and the limitations (because both matter)
  • Connecting research-level thinking to business value, not just model metrics

If you’re into AI that actually gets used (and tested by reality), we should chat.

What we value (and what usually works well here)

You don’t need to match a perfect checklist. We care most about how you think, how you reason, and how you handle uncertainty.

Things we tend to value a lot:

  • Strong fundamentals. You’re solid in math/stats and you don’t panic when the “right answer” isn’t obvious.
  • Applied mindset. You can move from theory to practical decisions, even when the data is messy and the constraints are real.
  • Good scientific judgement. You test assumptions, you don’t overfit narratives, and you can explain trade-offs clearly.
  • Clarity. You can communicate complex stuff without hiding behind jargon (engineers and business people both get you).
  • Collaboration. You like building things with others and you’re happy to iterate in the open.
  • Curiosity. You care about what the problem actually needs, not just what’s trending this month.

And yes, practically speaking, experience in these areas helps a lot:

  • Strong mathematical or statistical background (math, physics, engineering, etc.)
  • Applied AI/ML experience beyond notebooks (real-world constraints, real-world data)
  • Familiarity with both classic and modern methods (regression → transformers)
  • Ability to reason about data quality, validation, uncertainty, and causal structures
  • Bonus: consulting, research groups, or any kind of client‑facing work
What we offer

Good work should also be a sustainable setup:

  • Monthly salary typically € 5,500–7,500; based on experience and impact
  • Opportunity for equity
  • Hybrid setup from Helsinki or Tampere, with flexibility built in
  • High-ownership projects where you’ll shape the approach and see your work in real use
  • A high-trust, senior environment that values quality, learning, clarity, and technical depth
  • A chance to influence how we build applied AI as we grow
  • We’re small and growing, which means you’ll have a real say in how we build our tech, culture, and future
What next?

Not sure if you tick every box? That’s okay. We value deep thinking and technical curiosity more than buzzword coverage.

Apply via the link below so we can process your application properly. If the timing isn’t perfect right now, we’re still happy to start the conversation and keep in touch.
