Job summary

ICIQ in Catalonia is seeking a Diffraction Technician to join the Diffraction Unit of the Scientific Core Facilities. You will support single-crystal X-ray diffraction, powder XRD and 3D electron diffraction, prepare samples, process data, and maintain instruments.

The role offers a permanent full-time contract, a 37.5-hour week, and a salary aligned with ICIQ policy (€26,780–€35,020 gross per year). The position includes international collaboration and opportunities for professional development.

Qualifications

• PhD or bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline.
• Experience in single-crystal X-ray diffraction, including sample preparation, data collection, structure determination and refinement.
• Good command of English (oral and written).
• Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills, with attention to detail and record keeping.

Responsibilities

• Provide scientific and technical support for single-crystal X-ray diffraction, powder X-ray diffraction and 3D electron diffraction.
• Prepare and measure samples.
• Process and interpret data; communicate results to users.
• Maintain and calibrate instrumentation; coordinate with external service providers as needed.
• Maintain accurate records of samples, experiments and data; ensure traceability.
• Contribute to unit reports and technical documentation; support quality management.
• Stay informed of advances and contribute to new methodologies.
• Train users in equipment use and safety.
