Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia ICIQ seeks a Laboratory Technician for the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Unit. The role involves performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and advising researchers on NMR experiments to optimize instrument use and data quality.

You will contribute to implementing new NMR methods, manage lab operations, and ensure safety and compliance within a busy core facility environment.

Formación

• Chemistry degree (BSc, MSc or PhD) or equivalent.
• Good command of English (oral and written).
• Knowledge of informatics at user level.
• Previous experience with NMR instruments (preferably Bruker).

Responsabilidades

• Perform routine maintenance quality control of NMR instrumentation, including cryogen refilling, helium refilling, probe maintenance, shimming, pulse calibration, retiring measured samples, and performance monitoring.
• Troubleshoot and resolve instrument issues, coordinating with service engineers and suppliers when required.
• Attend to users of the unit, including measurement of NMR experiments and providing information/suggestions about NMR experiments.
• Contribute to implementation, optimization, and validation of new NMR methodologies, experiments, and instrumentation.
• Manage laboratory operations, including user access, supplier orders, equipment documentation, data management, and sample handling.
• Ensure compliance with laboratory quality and safety procedures, supporting internal and external audits.

The Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) is seeking a Laboratory Technician to work in the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Unit of the ICIQ Scientific Core Facilities.

ICIQ is one of the world’s internationally recognized leading institutions in the field of chemistry committed to solving major social and economic challenges by conducting top quality research in three main areas: SustainableCatalysis, Renewable Energy and Health. The candidate will work in the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Unit. This core facilities Unit provides researchers with access to a wide range of NMR experiments both under automation or manual mode. The unit also advises researchers on the most appropriate experiment to fit their needs, and it trains and instructs researchers in using NMR, what information can be obtained from NMR experiments and how to optimize the instrumental resources available. In addition, the NMR staff, also takes care of the instruments maintenance, update and new experiments implementation.

Responsibilities (performed under the Unit’s Manager supervision)

• Perform routine maintenance quality control of NMR instrumentation, including cryogen refilling, helium refilling, probe maintenance, shimming, pulse calibration, retiring measured samples, and performance monitoring.
• Troubleshoot and resolve instrument issues, coordinating with service engineers and suppliers when required.
• Attention to users of the unit, including measurement of NMR experiments, solving doubts about NMR experiments or providing information/suggestions about NMR experiments.
• Contribute to the implementation, optimization, and validation of new NMR methodologies, experiments, and instrumentation.
• Manage laboratory operations, including user access, supplier orders, equipment documentation, data management, and sample handling.
• Ensure compliance with laboratory quality and safety procedures, supporting internal and external audits.
• Attending seminars, webinars, and technical training.

Requirements

• Chemistry degree (BSc, MSc or PhD) or equivalent
• Good command of English (oral and written).
• Knowledge of informatics at user level.
• Previous experience with NMR instruments (preferably Bruker).

Selection Process

ICIQ’s selection process usually entails the following phases:

• Pre-selection: The pre-selection process will be based on qualifications and expertise as reflected on the candidates’ CVs. This phase is merit‑based.
• Interview: Preselected candidates will be interviewed by the Hiring Manager of the position and the appointed Selection Committee.
• Offer Letter: Once the successful candidate is selected, the People Unit will extend a Job Offer, specifying the start day, salary and overall job conditions.

The Selection Committee for this process is composed of:

A Human Resources Unit representative will participate in the interviews to ensure procedural correctness and compliance with OTM R principles, without forming part of the Selection Committee.

The evaluation committee will perform the assessment ensuring the absence of conflict of interest with any of the candidates and will sign a Declaration of Absence of Conflict of Interest (DACI) to that end. In case a conflict of interest arises, the evaluator will be substituted by a different evaluator with similar expertise.
