Job summary

Centre People Appointments seeks a Wastewater Treatment Engineer specialized in Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) technology in Catalonia, Spain. You will design, develop and optimise MBR wastewater solutions, collaborating with international teams and customers.

- MBR Technology / Wastewater Treatment / Hybrid Working -

A leading company in the water treatment and environmental technology sector is currently recruiting a Wastewater Treatment Engineer specialising in Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) technology.

The role will support the design, development, and optimisation of wastewater treatment solutions, including process engineering, plant design, technical feasibility studies, and system performance optimisation.

The successful candidate will work closely with international engineering teams, external technical partners, and customers. The ideal candidate should have practical wastewater treatment engineering experience and strong technical knowledge of MBR technology.

Main Responsibilities

• Conduct technical analyses and feasibility studies for industrial and municipal wastewater treatment projects
• Design, size, and optimise Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) wastewater treatment plants and systems
• Perform process calculations, hydraulic assessments, and technical evaluations
• Develop technical specifications, process flow diagrams (PFDs), and engineering documentation
• Evaluate wastewater characteristics and treatment requirements to optimise system performance
• Provide technical support for MBR system integration, installation, commissioning, and operation
• Troubleshoot wastewater treatment processes, membrane performance, and system efficiency issues
• Coordinate with external engineering consultancies, equipment suppliers, technical partners, and customers

Ideal Candidate

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related technical discipline
• At least 3 years' experience in wastewater treatment engineering, process design, or technical project development
• Strong technical knowledge of MBR technology, including biological treatment processes and membrane filtration systems
• Experience in wastewater treatment plant design, sizing, process calculations, and technical feasibility assessments
• Understanding of BOD, COD, TSS, nitrogen removal, and membrane filtration performance
• Experience in technical troubleshooting, process improvement, and wastewater treatment plant performance assessment
• Fluency in Spanish and English, both spoken and written
• AutoCAD knowledge and Portuguese language skills are advantageous
• Willingness to travel for site inspections, technical assessments, and project-related activities

Conditions

• Location: Catalonia, Spain
• Working Style: hybrid, 3 days a week in office, 2 days working from home
• Salary: competitive, depending on experience
• Job Type: permanent, full-time
• Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00–17:00, travel for business needed for up to 50% of working time
• Start: ASAP
