Job summary

Arup in Madrid is seeking a Fire Safety Trainee to join a multidisciplinary team and apply academic knowledge to real-world challenges in fire safety. You will work with experienced engineers to develop strategies, perform calculations and modelling, and contribute to reviews of new and existing buildings.

Ideal candidates are currently pursuing or recently graduated in Engineering or Architecture, fluent in English and Spanish (C1), with strong analytical and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

• Pursuing or recent graduate in Engineering, Architecture or related discipline.
• Fluent in English and Spanish (C1); knowledge of a third language is a plus.
• Exposure to fire safety engineering, fire dynamics, heat transfer or structural behavior in fire.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing fire safety strategies within multidisciplinary teams.
• Contribute to performance-based fire engineering studies, including calculations and modelling of fire and smoke behavior.
• Support fire safety reviews and inspections of buildings and infrastructure, reviewing drawings and reports.
• Assist with drawings, presentations and technical documentation for fire protection systems.

The Opportunity

Working alongside experienced fire engineers, you will apply your academic knowledge to real-world challenges, develop your technical skills and gain an understanding of fire safety principles, codes and standards.

As a Fire Safety Trainee at Arup, you will:

Support the development of fire safety strategies, working with multidisciplinary teams within Arup and external project teams.

Assist with performance-based fire engineering studies, including calculations and modelling related to fire and smoke behavior, evacuation and structural response to fire.

Support fire safety reviews and inspections of new and existing buildings and infrastructure, including reviewing drawings and contributing to technical reports.

Assist with the preparation of drawings, presentations and other technical documentation, with opportunities to gain exposure to fire protection systems design.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an eagerness to learn and apply new concepts.

Speak English and Spanish fluently (C1). A third language would be a plus.Academic exposure to fire safety engineering, fire dynamics, heat transfer or structural behavior in fire.

Familiarity with fire modelling tools, such as FDS and/or structural modelling tools, such as LS-DYNA, including through academic coursework or projects.
