Job summary

SYR - Shoreside Maritime Recruitment seeks an experienced Yacht Technical Manager to oversee technical management, maintenance, and operational readiness of a luxury yacht fleet. You will provide technical direction to Captains, Chief Engineers, owners, shipyards, and contractors, combining marine engineering expertise with project delivery and financial control.

Reporting to the Technical Director, you will own maintenance strategy, ensure compliance, and deliver reliable performance.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in marine engineering, yacht technical management, or technical superintendency.
• Strong engineering background, ideally as a Chief Engineer or similar senior role.
• Proven experience managing luxury yachts or superyachts, including complex maintenance programmes and major refit projects.

Responsibilities

• Oversee vessel condition, engineering performance, planned maintenance, defect resolution, and technical reliability.
• Lead refit periods, major repairs, upgrades, and warranty works, managing scope, quality, schedules, and budgets.
• Develop technical budgets, manage expenditure, review quotations, oversee procurement, and identify cost-efficiency opportunities.
• Monitor statutory certification, classification requirements, surveys, and applicable maritime regulations.
• Build trusted relationships with owners, Captains, Chief Engineers, shipyards, and suppliers; provide clear technical guidance.
• Deliver accurate technical reports, budget forecasts, maintenance plans, and recommendations to support decisions.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced and commercially astute Yacht Technical Manager to oversee the technical management, maintenance, and operational readiness of a portfolio of luxury yachts.

This is a key shoreside leadership role, providing technical direction and support to Captains, Chief Engineers, yacht owners, shipyards, and specialist contractors. The successful candidate will combine strong marine engineering expertise with excellent project management, financial control, and stakeholder management skills to ensure each yacht is maintained to the highest standards of safety, reliability, and performance.

The Role

Reporting to the Technical Director, you will take ownership of the technical performance and maintenance strategy of your assigned fleet, ensuring vessels remain compliant, operationally ready, and maintained in line with owner expectations.

Key responsibilities include:

• Technical Management: Oversee vessel condition, engineering performance, planned maintenance, defect resolution, and technical reliability.
• Refit & Project Delivery: Lead refit periods, major repairs, upgrades, and warranty works, managing scope, quality, schedules, and budgets.
• Financial & Commercial Control: Develop technical budgets, manage expenditure, review quotations, oversee procurement, and identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency.

You will take a proactive approach to identifying technical risks, resolving complex engineering challenges, and protecting the long-term value of the vessels under your management.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a technically credible, solutions-focused professional who can operate confidently at both engineering and senior management level.

You will ideally bring:

• Significant experience in marine engineering, yacht technical management, or technical superintendency.
• A strong engineering background, ideally gained as a Chief Engineer or in a comparable senior technical position.
• Proven experience managing luxury yachts or superyachts, including complex maintenance programmes and major refit projects.
• A comprehensive understanding of marine machinery, propulsion systems, auxiliary equipment, and onboard engineering systems.
• Demonstrable commercial acumen, including budget management, cost control, procurement, and contractor negotiations.
• A sound understanding of flag-state, classification, and applicable statutory requirements.
• Excellent communication and relationship management skills, with the confidence to engage with owners, Captains, and senior stakeholders.
• The organisational ability to manage competing priorities across multiple vessels and projects.

Experience with large yachts, international shipyards, and complex technical programmes will be highly advantageous.
