AWS ESC team at Amazon Madrid seeks experienced systems engineers to lead the European Sovereign Cloud initiative, focusing on automation and high‑availability operations. You will help build, operate, and evolve the services that deliver reliable AWS capabilities for EU customers.

Join a global operations culture, contribute to incident response, and mentor teams while driving improvements in performance, latency and efficiency. Fluency in English and EU residence are required.

AWS has successfully launched the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC). To spearhead this initiative, we are seeking experienced systems engineers with a strong background in automation and operations.

As part of the AWS Managed Operations team, you will play a pivotal role in building, operating and evolving the teams that deliver high‑availability AWS services for EU customers.

Responsibilities

• Oversee ongoing operations and expansion of the ESC, working closely with global AWS teams.
• Collaborate with technology leaders and contribute to operational improvements around availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency.
• Participate in 24x7 on‑call rotations to resolve incidents and ensure fault‑tolerant systems.
• Develop and test automation scripts to enhance workflows and system reliability.
• Provide training and knowledge sharing about the European Sovereign Cloud to service teams.

Eligibility Requirements

• Fluency in written and spoken English.
• Must be a national of an EU member state and reside in the EU.
• Experience in Linux OS and network troubleshooting or networking administration.
• Experience with scripting languages such as Python or Perl.
• Strong background in systems engineering, site reliability engineering, and operating large‑scale systems.
• Ability to lead the creation, revision, and improvement of standard operational procedures (SOPs) and drive operational best practices.

Basic Qualifications

• Experience in Linux OS and network troubleshooting, or experience in networking administration and troubleshooting.
• Experience in Python, Perl, or another scripting language.
• Experience in Systems engineering, site reliability engineering, building and operating systems at scale.
• Ability to lead the creation, revision, and/or improvement of standard operational procedures (SOPs) and driving operational best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with monitoring frameworks such as CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, or Elastic.
• Experience actively mentoring junior engineers and working cross‑organizationally on strategic team efforts.
• Experience operating 24x7 high‑availability, distributed software applications and performance tuning.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible).
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and Generative AI technologies including automated deployment and model deployment.
